4 Tips You Need to Save On Your Air Conditioning Bill

We all want to beat the heat and humidity of everyday living in Malaysia without paying exorbitant electricity bills. Sometimes using the fan, dressing light, or having well-ventilated space isn’t enough. We just can’t live without air-conditioning. Discover four tips to save energy, cut costs, and cool your house, so you can live in comfort every day.

1. Pre-cool when possible

Did you know that ramping up your air conditioner every time the temperature suddenly rises racks up your bill? Pre-cool your house gradually by leaving your windows open to release the heat and stuffy air before turning the AC on. Make sure you shut the windows properly when you turn on your AC to prevent any cold air leaving.

2. Adjust your temperature gradually

Every degree of cooling makes your air conditioning unit work harder, increasing its energy consumption. Save on your air conditioning bill. Set it a few degrees cooler instead of all the way freezing and wait for the temperature to adjust.

A useful rule of thumb is to minimise the differences between indoor and outdoor temperatures. You can save up to 3% on cooling costs for every degree you set above 26 degrees Celcius. 1

Take advantage of our Mitsubishi Electric unit with a built-in timer, which allows you to set both the temperature and the hours of operation for maximum energy efficiency.

3. Get shades to block out the sun

Blocking out sunlight with curtains, blinds, or shutters is advisable to keep your home cool during the warmest part of the day. The overall temperature inside could be reduced by up to 4 degrees 2. And it stops cold air from leaking out. This is especially true if your house faces the afternoon sun.

4. Maintain cooling systems

Regularly cleaning your air conditioner’s filter and cross-flow fan (a.k.a. blower) could help your AC use less power, reduce energy costs, and improve efficiency. A dirty filter and cross-flow fan could block air flow and make your AC work twice as hard to pump out cool air. Ensure your AC filter is not clogged with dust or particles by cleaning or replacing it every few months to maintain optimum efficiency. Our unique easy-to-clean feature makes cleaning easy. It enables easy access to clean the cross-flow fan. Check your user manual for simple maintenance checks if you intend to clean it by yourself.

Choose the right cooling for your home

You should only leave your air conditioner on when you’re at home. If you follow these tips and you find that your AC isn’t working effectively to cool your home, it may be due for replacement.

If you need an AC that can last more than 10 years, get a high-efficiency unit that will save you money in the long term. Check out 5 Tips for Buying an Air Conditioner.
